Hefei Xinqiao International Airport Terminal 2 BIPV Curtain Wall Project
Release time: 2026-04-01
Project Overview
Sungrun has officially launched the Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) Curtain Wall Project for Terminal 2 of Hefei Xinqiao International Airport.
The project integrates renewable energy generation directly into the airport’s architectural envelope, creating a landmark example of sustainable infrastructure development in China’s transportation sector.

Project Highlights
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Location | Hefei, China |
| Project Type | BIPV Curtain Wall |
| Application Area | 15,100 m² |
| Building Type | International Airport Terminal |
| Technologies | Power-Generating Glass + Mono-crystalline PV Modules |
Challenge
Modern transportation hubs require solutions that balance:
- Architectural aesthetics
- Energy efficiency
- Long-term durability
- Large-scale power generation
Traditional rooftop systems alone are often insufficient to maximize renewable energy utilization in complex airport environments.
Solution
Sungrun developed an integrated BIPV solution combining:
- 8,900 m² high-efficiency transparent photovoltaic glass
- 6,200 m² anti-reflective monocrystalline PV panels
The system incorporates photovoltaic curtain walls, canopies, sunshade louvers, and boarding bridge structures into a unified energy-generating building envelope.

Results
The project transforms the airport façade into an active clean-energy asset while maintaining architectural functionality and visual appeal.
Upon completion, it will become one of the largest airport BIPV curtain wall systems in China’s transportation infrastructure sector.
Impact
The project showcases the future of smart, sustainable airports by integrating clean energy generation directly into building structures and supporting China’s carbon reduction objectives.
